Why Your Pets Deserve a Spot in Your Family Photos

If pets are part of your family - then of course they can be part of your family photos! This is yet another reason why I love doing family photo sessions in your home, whether you have a dog, cat, chickens, guinea pig, horse - I’m more than happy for them to join in.

As with most of my Brisbane photography sessions, things tend to unfold naturally and your pets will most likely insert themselves into your photos. If you’re doing a Family Story Session, there is plenty of time for lots of natural interactions with your pets so nothing needs to be forced. I know the old saying, ‘never work with kids or animals’ but it tends to create my favourite type of chaos to photograph.

The arrival of a new puppy or baby chicks is the perfect opportunity to get professional photos when everyone is excited to play, pat and cuddle the new arrival. And, another bonus - if you’re a little uncomfortable in front of the camera, pets can definitely help calm your nerves and create an excellent distraction for you and your children.

And what did I say before about chaos, this photo is actually of my own family and every time I look back on it I laugh. This photo sums up pretty well how messy life was at that time. We had a cat and a puppy, and we were dog sitting an elderly dog and add in our kids - a toddler and a 5 year old. And yes - that is what our life looked like - messy!
