For me, natural newborn photography is just that; Natural. I don’t use props, I don’t pose the baby in particular ways. I want to capture the new relationship between you and your newborn baby. I want to capture the teeny little features of your baby that change so quickly. I want you to almost be able to smell that newborn smell when you look back on your babies first professional photos.

I know that it can feel a little awkward being in the presence of a camera though so sometimes it helps to have something planned to do… and sometimes one activity naturally leads to another which is perfect for capturing all the moments of your family. So, what are documentary family photos?

Within the first couple weeks is a popular time to get newborn photos. Your new little baby is so small, and that alone is a perfect reason to capture them at this age (how many people comment when they see a newborn baby that they had forgotten how small they are!) Some newborn photographers suggest this time as it's also when baby can be more sleepy and more likely to fall into a deep sleep when you can pose them a bit more. Since my newborn photo sessions don't involve posing the baby, this isn't as important for the way I shoot - I'm more than happy for your newborn baby to spend the whole newborn photo session snuggled in your arms if that's what they want to do.

When I photograph your family, I want you to be you. I don’t expect you to buy new outfits. In all honesty, I just want you to feel like yourself…
